Singing legend teams up with fundraising friend
Legendary singer Tony Christie paid a special visit to Sheffield’s Weston Park Hospital to support a friend’s fundraising drive for the Cancer Charity.
Tony, who is celebrating his 50th year in showbusiness, delighted patients and staff when he took a break from his hectic performing schedule to lend his star power to Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.
The Conisbrough-born singer was supporting his friend of more than 50 years, Jim Beachill, aged 67, also from Conisbrough, who was doing a presentation at the hospital, with grandchildren Jack, 14, and Elishia, 12, about their trek to the Great Wall of China for the Cancer Charity.
Jim, Elishia and Jack’s trek raised £20,000 in sponsorship with a donation to be made to the Cancer Charity once all the cash has been collected.
The intrepid trio have previously raised funds for the charity by tackling an 80 mile walk along the length of Hadrian’s Wall in 2009.
Rachel Thorpe, director of Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity said: “It’s fantastic to have such great support from Jim and from Tony. It was a lovely day, patients and staff enjoyed meeting Tony and hearing Jim’s presentation too.”
A huge thank you from all of us to Tony, Jim, Jack and Elishi!
